Brigadier Abbas Ali Khan(R) was commissioned in the Army during 1971 Indo - Pak war. His father, Maj Gen Rehmat Ali Shah Bukhari(R) was also a decorated Army Officer and Brigadier Abbas followed his footsteps to join the army. He has a Bachelors in Management (War Studies). He is a graduate of Command and Staff College, Quetta. He has served on various command, staff and instructional assignments in his career in the Army, including the important appointments of Chief Of Logistics UN Mission Bosnia-herzegovina, Assistant Military Secretary GHQ, Commandant FC, Commanding 22 Brigade, Lahore.

He has also remained Chief Executive MEPCO, largest energy supply and distribution companies in Pakistan.

In account of his distinguished service, he was appointed Director General Election Commision of Pakistan in 2015. He is currently a Director and member of the Advisory Board of Greencorp Holdings.
